Balms with formic acid

Balms with formic acid

Balms with formic acid follow the folk tradition of massages with formic spirit. Light gels with formic acid, common comfrey or devil's claw are easy to massage in, leave no greasy layer and either warm the area or pleasantly cool it.

How to choose a gel with formic acid

A warming feeling after a day full of movement is brought by the warming gel balm with devil's claw, Ceylon cinnamon and sweet flag, or by the 911 gel with common comfrey, camphor and capsicum, which suits the back, neck and knees.

A fresh, cooling feeling is offered by the cooling gel balm with hops, stinging nettle, mountain arnica and menthol. Both gel balms also contain chondroitin and glucosamine and absorb quickly, so you can apply them in the morning before leaving the house.

How to use a gel with formic acid

Apply the gel to clean, dry skin and massage it in until it has absorbed completely. Repeat the massage two to three times a day or as needed. The light gel texture leaves no greasy marks, so it will not stain your clothes and you can use the gel during the day too, for example at work or at the cottage.

Formic acid in traditional care

Formic spirit was one of the favourite helpers in many households for massaging the back and calves. Today's gels combine formic acid with herbal extracts and essential oils, so the massage is more pleasant and the area is gently scented.

Warming or cooling gel?

You will love a warming gel with cinnamon, camphor or capsicum in cold weather and for a stiff neck after long sitting. A cooling gel with menthol is refreshing after sport, a hike or on warm days. In autumn and winter many people reach for the warming version, and in summer for the cooling one.

What to watch out for

Do not apply the gels to mucous membranes, around the eyes or on damaged skin. Do not use them on children under three years of age. Before the first massage, try them on a small spot on your forearm, and wash your hands after the massage. Bee venom balms are also suited to a similar traditional massage.
