Coffee, tea

Coffee and tea without caffeine

Ivan tea is a traditional Slavic drink made from the leaves of rosebay willowherb, and chicory coffee is a gentle alternative to classic coffee. Both are caffeine-free, so you can treat yourself to a cup in the morning or the evening. They are complemented by chaga teas with herbs and liquorice.

How to choose Ivan tea and chicory coffee

Ivan tea from fermented rosebay willowherb leaves can be enjoyed plain, fruity with rosehip, or fragrant as the Winter Ivan tea with apples, cinnamon, ginger and cloves. Woodland notes come from the chaga tea with cedar cone and sage.

Chicory coffee is an instant drink made from chicory root, a natural source of inulin. It is creamy with stevia and plant-based creamer, fruity with blueberry and rosehip, and fresh with sea buckthorn and lemongrass. Do try the chicory coffee with Jerusalem artichoke too.

How to prepare Ivan tea

Pour hot water over one to two teaspoons of Ivan tea and leave to infuse for 10 to 15 minutes. As it contains no caffeine, you can enjoy it in the evening too. The fermented leaves last through several infusions, and the Winter Ivan tea can be infused up to three times. The tea has a gentle taste and goes nicely with a teaspoon of honey.

How to prepare chicory coffee

Pour about 150 ml of hot water over one to two teaspoons of the powder and stir well. Add honey, milk or a plant-based drink to taste. Chicory coffee with blueberry and rosehip can also be prepared as a cold drink for warm days.

Tea instead of coffee in autumn

If you would like to cut down on caffeine, you can swap your afternoon coffee for a cup of chicory coffee and brew Ivan tea in the evening. On cold days, a warming chaga tea with ginger and rosehip suits you well. You will find more chaga teas with mint, sea buckthorn or cedar cone in the chaga category.

Liquorice as a decoction

The root of liquorice is not infused but simmered. Put one tablespoon into 200 ml of water, bring it to the boil, simmer gently for 15 minutes and strain. The decoction is naturally sweet. Drink a tea made from a single herb for three weeks at most, and then give yourself a week's break. If you are taking medication, or are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before drinking herbal teas.
